Every cell in the body contains DNA. With it, you can identify somebody. Hair roots, blood, sperm and saliva are commonly used during forensic investigations.
Injected sample
The cells are injected into the gas chromatograph. The sample streams through the column. This divides the components because some pass through more quickly than others. The separated components pass through a detector one by one. The sample’s composition is determined.
Poison or doping?
Gas chromatography is used in doping control. A substance in the urine indicates if drugs have been used. Gas chromatography is also used to determine if someone has been poisoned. That can even be ascertained years later. Mystery finally solved.
